Micromidas Inc. CEO John Bissell has big plans for his West Sacramento startup. It will, he predicts, reduce dependency on foreign oil, have positive impacts related to climate change and reap big economic benefits.
The biotech startup plans to convert cellulosic waste material — starting with corrugated cardboard — into paraxylene, a chemical normally derived from petroleum. Paraxylene is used in the production of polyester and plastic bottles containing soft drinks and other beverages.
